Remain in Power for Even 10 Months: HDK Dares Congress
In a bold challenge to the ruling Congress party in Karnataka, former Chief Minister and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy has dared the Siddaramaiah government to retain power for even 10 months, let alone the 10 years claimed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
This statement comes amid a joint padayatra (foot march) launched by the JD(S) and BJP to Mysuru, demanding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation over alleged corruption scandals involving MUDA and the ST Development Corporation.
Kumaraswamy didn’t mince words, suggesting internal strife within the Congress: “There are many in Congress waiting in queue for their turn.” He also accused Shivakumar, whom he referred to as “CD Shivu,” of leaking documents to undermine Siddaramaiah while feigning support.
The opposition’s unified front was emphasized by Kumaraswamy, who stated that BJP and JD(S) workers are energized to oust the Congress government. He expressed surprise at Congress questioning the opposition’s integrity while facing multiple scandals.
BJP stalwart B S Yediyurappa advised Siddaramaiah to “resign respectfully” instead of offering “silly excuses.” Meanwhile, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra claimed the week-long march has the potential to topple the Congress government.
Kumaraswamy also reflected on past political dynamics, asserting that had the BJP-JD(S) coalition not dissolved in 2006-07, Congress would have hit rock bottom in Karnataka. He vowed that the current BJP-JD(S) alliance is unbreakable.
This political drama unfolds as the opposition intensifies its efforts to expose alleged Congress misdeeds, citing scandals such as the cash-for-transfer controversy and embezzlement in the Valmiki Corporation.
